The one-semester course will outline the conditions of contemporary thinking and engage its diverse forms within dynamic rhythm of current global problems and artistic or pop-cultural examples. The topics will 14 15 range from the contemporariness as a philosophical problem in itself, the philosophy of 19th and 20th century and their role in contemporary thinking, to broad scope of current philosophies, such as speculative realism, object-oriented ontology and new materialism. The seminar will involve non-extensive reading of principal texts with the emphasis on discussion and links with both contemporary art world and the practice of students themselves.

Study Objectives:


- to provide an overview of contemporary philosophy

- to encourage students to critical thinking

- to encourage students to practise reading and writting

- to make students familiar with elementary philosophical and theoretical concept as present in state final examination questions


On satisfactory completion of this subject, the student will be able to:

- critically asses problems of contemporary world and art

- prove their knowledge of basic philosophical concepts

- read philosophical sources

- apply basics of academic writting
